Le Routard 2008 Guide

Routard Recommended, independent reviews by previous guests.

Guide Routard 2008

"Before arriving at Courmayeur (arriving by the Mont Blanc tunnel), on the left, in the village of La Saxe, from the narrow and steep roads (leave your car in the roadside car park). Open all year round. Ten rooms inclusive of breakfast, seasonal prices from €70 to €96.

In a house from the 1800's which has been completely restored, can be found a small family-run hotel. The owner of the house will be happy to inform you about the nearby restaurants. Every 20 minutes there is a shuttle which goes to the centre, the ski runs or La Palud."

The hamlets of Courmayeur

"Not far from the centre, is La Saxe, famous since the 1700's for its mineral water springs. This is the birth place of Emile Rey, whose name is inscribed in the Golden Register of guides. Considered in fact, the prince of mountaineers, he owes his fame to the conquest of the peaks of the Aiguille Blanche at the end of the 1800s. For some time now, his heirs have reformed the house into a small B&B: Ten rooms for simple and genuine hospitality."
